Green Drinks Ithaca - August Engagement!
As this warm and active summer winds down to ramp up for a lively fall, we hope this invite finds you well. We've had a lot of announcements to make about the Hub and our official launch of The SEEN on September 1st, and we'd like to hear from you. We would love your feedback and questions about The SEEN and becoming a member, as well as the larger shifts towards participation in the sustainability movement.
We will be holding this month's event at Northstar House from 7-10pm. And, we will be announcing a new venue for September and beyond.
At this gathering, we'll be distributing a short survey to get your feedback and ideas to help drive future programming for Green Drinks. We can't do it without YOU! Please mark August 23rd on your calendars, for a Green Drinks Ithaca at Northstar House.

Green Drinks Ithaca
Now at Giving Tree Cafe!
We kicked off a summer of Green Drinks in Ithaca with a new venue and some fresh faces. The Giving Tree (formerly ABC Café) graciously opened their doors to the Green Drinks crowd, preparing a delicious spread of summer soups and salads, fresh bread, salsa, and hummus – a menu comprised of farm fresh, local foods that was enjoyed by all. In addition, local beer wine and hard cider was served, with a special on Ithaca draft beers, a Fingerlakes white and Eve's Hard Cider. Despite the torrential downpours throughout the evening, Green Drinkers didn’t miss the opportunity to meet up with friends, make fortuitous connections, and enjoy this summer kick-off event. With about 40+ people in attendance and lots of first-timers, June Green Drinks was a good time for all.
As we look toward July, we can hardly believe it’s been six months since Green Drinks Ithaca began! We want to mark the occasion by taking some time to hear from you.
We hate to be the bearers of sad news, but unfortunately, The Giving Tree Cafe, our summer host, is closed. We are so grateful to The Giving Tree Cafe for opening their doors to us in June, and for helping us to create such a fun and delicious evening. Even though the owners - Rob, Ananda, and Sean - had to make a most difficult choice, the commitment they made to be a sustainable community venue and the initiative they created will prevail.
We've be seeking out new venues, and we'll be in touch soon to share plans beyond August. Please mark August 23rd on your calendars, for a Green Drinks Ithaca at Northstar House. At this gathering, we'll be distributing a short survey to get your feedback and ideas to help drive future programming for Green Drinks. We can't do it without YOU!

Our Locations
Northstar House & Giving Tree Cafe
It is our goal to host these events at local establishments that share a purpose of strengthening the community and environment in which we live.
The Hub is delighted to announce the second venue for our Green Drinks Ithaca events - Giving Tree Cafe! Our first five events were at Northstar House, and now we are at Giving Tree Cafe for the months of June, July, and August. Like Northstar House, Giving Tree Cafe has pursued the challenge of looking deeper into their business and committing to principles of sustainability. And, in pursuit of more successes both businesses have invested in their triple bottom line by becoming Charter Members of the Sustainable Enterprise & Entrepreneur Network (SEEN).
Our Ambassadors
Lee Hamilton & Jed Ashton

"We will be there to welcome you and show you how it's done! Find us, and we'll find someone for you to meet."
* Each month there can be two new Ambassadors. While all who take on this honoroble role will be welcome to continue their efforts every month, and serve multiple times, we all recognize that sustainability is a subject that is constantly evolving with new elements emerging every day. With a fresh take on reaching out to the community, all of our Green Drinks events will be rewarded by social contributions that did not exist before.

Green Drinks Ithaca - A Hub Happy Day!
This fifth Green Drinks Ithaca marked the perfect time for the Green Resource Hub to celebrate its fourth birthday. It has been a time of innumerable volunteer hours and invaluable generocity and activity that has garnered a wealth of program development for the Hub and movement towards a sustainable marketplace for the community. This Event brought in more new and familiar faces than any previous, and shared in the spirit that makes our organization what it is today.
It has been a wonderful year for Green Drinks Ithaca in the positive attention and interactivity we have experienced, and in connections that started with simple conversation and have already grown into new relationships, ideas and possibilities for our community. Thanks to YOU this is possible. Keep up the good work!

Green Drinks Ithaca - Spring is Bright Green!
Have you noticed how the beautiful trees in the Ithaca Community (and many others) have yellow buds along with their new green leaves? Walking around town lately... all of the sudden color has an awesome brightness to it. Bright Green is also a mindset based on the belief that the convergence of technological change and social innovation provides the most successful path to sustainable development.
Bright Green is enthusiastic about green energy, efficient manufacturing systems, bio technologies, ubiquitous computing, dense urban settlements, closed loop materials cycles and sustainable product designs. They tend to focus extensively on the idea that through a combination of well-built communities, new technologies and sustainable living practices, quality of life can actually be improved even while ecological footprints shrink.
"Bright greens" emerged as a group of environmentalists who believe that radical changes are needed in the economic and political operation of society in order to make it sustainable, but that better designs, new technologies and more widely distributed social innovations are the means to make those changes - and that society can neither shop nor protest its way to sustainability. As Ross Robertson writes, "[B]right green environmentalism is less about the problems and limitations we need to overcome than the “tools, models, and ideas” that already exist for overcoming them. It forgoes the bleakness of protest and dissent for the energizing confidence of constructive solutions."

Green Drinks Ithaca - Onwards!
at Northstar House
Hosts: Katie Stoner & Scott K. Hamilton
Ambassadors: Lee Hamilton & Mark Darling
Thank you for joining the Ithaca Green Drinks community for our third event and enjoy the company of colleagues, friends, and new friends!
Our Ambassadors have changed! They are still here to welcome you to Green Drinks Ithaca; find them, and they will find someone for you to meet. Everyone in the sustainability movement knows a unique group of people in our community. Having new and fresh Green Drinks guests will support diverse and relevant monthly events; so, our ambassadors are such connectors. Each month our ambassadors will change. These folks seek the possibility of meeting someone who can make a green difference in your life.
We had a lot of fun at our third event! It was especially great to see many new faces to the event, to enjoy our first event with new ambassadors and a way to keep the crowd fresh. It was no coincidence that conversations were strong on diversity and sharing ideas on the power of community.

Green Drinks Ithaca - Take Two!
at Northstar House
Host: Scott K. Hamilton
Ambassadors: Kat McCarthy & Mark Darling
We've created a short documentary film! Videographer, Luke Gustafson recorded at this event and took some interviews with the Hub. The video presents Green Drinks in Ithaca to help communicate its purpose. Enjoy!
The Hub and esteemed guests enjoyed another great Green Drinks! We experienced new connections, ideas and ways in which we are all connected in the movement towards sustainable living. The terms 'sustainable' and even 'green' are often too clinical or over-used for the attention without the merit of results. At these events, it seems clear that the whole community wants to live now into a future that supports a passion for ideas, harmony with the environment and the natural abundance it has to offer. Green Drinks events appear to have an ease, as the place for direction of the movement is in people meeting in the here and now, not in any rank, organization, or industry.
